Play with Friends is back — Grabble Words 1.7 is here!

Six letters in the middle of the table. A word taking shape in your head. And the quiet question that makes Grabble Words what it is: do you play the first word you see, or do you wait until you think of a longer one?

Grabble Words is our free word game for iPhone and iPad — a Victorian-era cousin of Anagrams, older than Scrabble! Find words from the tiles. Grab words from your opponent by adding letters. When the bag is empty, the highest letter score wins.

You can Pass ’n’ Play on one device, or practise against the Grabot. And for a long time you could play a friend as well.

Then Facebook changed the rules, and we had to take Play with Friends down. We said we were working on a solution. That solution is here!

Play with Friends, through Game Center

Online play is back — this time through Game Center. No Facebook account needed.

Create a new game, tap Play with Friends, and invite someone who has Grabble Words and Game Center. You take turns on the same board. When they play, you’ll get a notification, so you know it’s your move.

If you used to play Grabble Words with someone, this is the update that lets you sit at the table again.

A quicker Grabot

The Grabot has always been a useful sparring partner — Easy, Medium, or Hard, depending how brave you’re feeling.

In 1.7 it thinks much faster. Same crazy grin. Less waiting while it hunts for a word.

Pass ’n’ Play and Grabot games also save more reliably now, and the whole app is updated for today’s iOS.
